Earlier this month, Moving the Goalposts Kilifi proudly hosted the launch of Equal Play Effect Africa in Kenya, bringing together a diverse group of individuals committed to championing gender equality in sports.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all delegates from participating organizations including; Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Common Goal, Soccer Without Boarders, Kick4Life, TIBU Africa and Tackle Africa for bringing their energy and commitment to this transformative initiative.
Equal Play Effect Africa represents a new chapter in the journey towards gender equality in sports, led by Moving the Goalposts Kilifi as a Common Goal expert partner, in collaboration with Soccer Without Borders and generously funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of @BMZ.
The primary goal of Equal Play Effect Africa is to increase opportunities and empower leadership among women through sports. The initiative will establish and facilitate a pan-African network of organizations implementing the sport-for-development approach, fostering gender equality in their communities.
To drive collaboration and create vibrant sub-regional communities, four Regional Hubs have been established in North, East, West, and Southern Africa. These hubs, led by esteemed sport-for-development partners Tibu Africa (Morocco), Soccer Without Borders Uganda (Uganda), Kick4Life (Lesotho), and Tackle (Côte d'Ivoire/Senegal), will collectively engage up to 40 organizations.
Through Equal Play Effect Africa, the regional hubs and network organizations will collaboratively identify strategies to strengthen and embed gender equality within their organizations. This includes initiatives on the sidelines, on the pitch, and within their communities, promoting a movement of gender equality champions across the continent.
We are thrilled to be part of Equal Play Effect Africa, and we believe this initiative will play a pivotal role in empowering women through sports, creating a lasting impact in communities across Africa.
