Kilifi, Kenya, Nov 17, 2020 - In recognition of the use of football to achieve gender equality and empower disadvantaged girls and young women, Moving The Goalposts (MTG) was named as the winners for the 2020 Sport for Gender Equality Collective Impact Award backed by Comic Relief - a Beyond Sport Foundation partner since 2014 - and the BT Supporters Club.
“I am really delighted to be part of this award. I am celebrating this moment with an amazing team at MTG. Yes, Tunaweza! This award has recognized our efforts to promote gender equality and will enable us to work jointly to strengthen the impact and promote joint learning,” MTG Executive Director stated.
MTG was awarded along three other sports for development organizations namely Soccer Without Borders (Uganda), Pamoja Initiative (Kenya) and Sport-Aid Development Trust (Zambia) for their efforts in using sports to progress the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls and, in turn, advance society as a whole.
The four organizations will receive significant grant funding, business support tools and strategic guidance to support their collective efforts over a period of one year, benefiting from each other’s individual expertise, sharing best practice and working through issues in real-time to accelerate sustainable social change through sport.
The Beyond Sport Foundation established the Gender Equality Collective Impact Awards in 2019 to bring together the best and most innovative organizations from around the world that are using sport to address specific UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or Global Goals) – to facilitate and fund collaboration to drive greater impact.
