Meet Constance Kache, a 20-year-old Moving The Goalposts (MTG) beneficiary from Mnarani League field. Kache started her journey with MTG in 2009 when she was just in standard four. Initially, she had joined the MTG United team as an outfield player but swiftly transformed into one of the finest goalkeepers around. Kache credits her shift in playing positions mainly to her high school teacher who noticed her fast reflexes and jumping abilities and pushed her towards becoming a goalkeeper.
Ever since Kache has led her teams as the number one goalkeeper into numerous titles and honours; 2013 East Africa Cup Champions, 2019 Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Championship winners in the Coast region with Waa Girls and 1st runners-up in the FKF Women Division One League in 2019.Currently, Kache, along with the rest of her MTG United teammates, have intensified their pre-season matches ahead of the new 2021 FKF Women Division One League season which kicks off on January 9.
At the same time, Kache is part of the MTG Coast to Coast Network (MCCN) project which aims at transforming beneficiaries into changemakers who can identify emerging issues within their communities and come up with grassroots girl-led initiatives to advocate for different causes in the Coastal region of Kenya (Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa). Kache is already implementing her initiative dubbed ‘Watoto Wanahaki’ that focuses on sensitizing girls and young women on their rights through arts; poems, songs, dancing, and drawing. She reveals that her mission is to champion for children’s rights within the community as well as working in partnership with community members to end child abuse and exploitation. Her highlight so far was when her group performed a traditional dance to the US Ambassador Kyle McCarter and his wife Victoria Ramatowski during their visit to MTG offices in November 2020.
When she is not training in the field, the 20-year-old is busy helping her group to make traditional dancing attires and props out of locally available materials, which they use for their weekly sessions. Currently, they are reciting poems on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to mark the ongoing 16 Days of activism against GBV campaign.
