Communications Officer (Kilifi)
Moving The Goalposts is a sport for development organization established in 2002 in Kilifi. The organization uses football to empower girls in the rural and urban areas of the coast region. MTG envisions a more inclusive, just, and peaceful world where girl’s and women’s human rights are realized and protected. It uses a rights-based approach and focuses primarily on sexual and reproductive rights, health, and choice. More than nine thousand girls (aged 9 – 25 years) participate in tournaments and ongoing leagues in Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Tana River counties. MTG leagues are youth-led and managed and include girl advocates that promote healthy sexual choices, financial independence, and female leadership. Girls are also encouraged to take up more leadership roles in their communities.

Job Purpose
The Communications Officer plays a key role in shaping MTG’s brand narrative. You will develop, produce, distribute, and monitor engaging content across multiple platforms to support MTG’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communication Strategy & Content Development
- Lead the execution of MTG’s Communications Strategy.
- Implement annual and quarterly communication plans in collaboration with staff, ensuring organization-wide alignment.
- Support internal teams in building communication capacity and deliver weekly progress updates to the Executive Director.
- Work with designers to produce high-quality infographics, videos, photography, and audio stories.
- Write, edit, and distribute content such as press releases, feature stories, speeches, website copy, publications, and the MTG annual report.
- Develop and manage MTG podcast
2. Media & Digital Engagement
- Manage MTG’s website and social media platforms with regular, timely updates.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists and maintain a media contacts database.
- Track media mentions and online conversations about MTG, offering insights that inform strategy.
- Lead the development of MTG’s Quarterly publications including the Tunaweza Newsletter on Mailchimp and the Annual Report.
3. Documentation & Records Management
- Maintain an organized archive of all communication assets including media coverage, content outputs, social media, and web analytics.
- In collaboration with programs teams, document success stories, best practices, and produce MTG’s annual Digital Success Story Booklet.
- Prepare high-quality weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Develop and manage budgets for communication activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field.
Skills & Experience
• 1–5 years’ professional experience in communications, preferably within the nonprofit, social impact, or Sport for Development sector.
• Proven writing and editing ability, including developing press releases, newsletters, web copy, and impact stories; able to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
• Strong visual storytelling skills, demonstrated through producing photo essays, short-form videos, or campaign assets that increase engagement.
• Hands-on experience with design and publishing software, including Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, to create branded communication materials.
• Competent in photography, videography, and digital content creation, with experience producing content for social media, donor reports, and organizational campaigns.
• Solid project coordination and time‑management skills, including managing multiple communication projects, meeting deadlines, and supporting cross‑departmental initiatives.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems (CMS), and major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X/Twitter), including scheduling, analytics, and community engagement.
• Experience in the nonprofit or Sport for Development sector is a strong advantage, particularly in creating communication materials tailored for donor engagement, program visibility, and community outreach.
