Educating The Future
Creating Pathways for Girls to Learn, Lead, and Thrive
At Moving the Goalposts (MTG), we believe that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, regardless of her background. Our Education Program is designed to keep girls in school, help them return when they drop out, and support their academic, emotional, and leadership development through adolescence and beyond.
Why We Focus on Girls’ Education
Education is more than books and classrooms; it’s a life-changing foundation. Yet in coastal Kenya, many girls face barriers like poverty, teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and cultural gender norms that interrupt or end their education prematurely.
We intervene at these critical points. Through education, we create opportunities for girls to dream bigger, delay early motherhood, become financially independent, and challenge inequality.
Our Impact
- Hundreds of young women are now mentoring the next generation.
- Over 5,000 girls were supported to stay in or return to school.
- 90% transition rate from primary to secondary education among participants.

What We Do

Back-to-School Support
We help out-of-school girls re-enrol by providing school fees, uniforms, learning materials, and mentorship support. We work hand in hand with parents, schools, and community leaders to remove the barriers that prevent girls from attending school.

Academic Tutoring and Lifeskills
Through after-school sessions, holiday camps, and peer-to-peer learning, girls receive academic support along with training in critical thinking, confidence-building, sexual and reproductive health, and leadership development.

Advocacy Clubs
We train girls to advocate for their right to education and speak out against harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. These safe spaces foster self-expression and active citizenship.

School Transition and Career Pathways
We walk with girls through every academic milestone from primary school to high school, and even vocational or tertiary education, helping them map out futures with purpose.
“Before MTG, I never thought I’d finish school. Now I’m in college and mentoring girls from my village.”
