Call for Consultancy for SRHR Curriculum Development Services for Moving the Goalposts (MTG).

Organization Background.

Moving The Goalposts (MTG) is a sport for development organization established in 2002 in Kilifi County, located on the Kenyan Coast. The organization uses football to empower girls in the rural and urban areas of the coastal region. MTG envisions a more inclusive, just, and peaceful world where girls and women’s human rights are realized and protected. It uses a rights-based approach focusing primarily on sexual and reproductive rights, health, and choice. More than nine thousand girls (aged 9 – 25 years) participate in tournaments and ongoing leagues in Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Tana River counties. MTG leagues are youth-led and managed, including girl advocates promoting healthy sexual choices, financial independence, and female leadership. Girls are also encouraged to take up more leadership roles in their communities.

Background to the Consultancy.

In rural Coastal Kenya, adolescent girls, young women and women continue to experience disproportionate burdens of adverse Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) outcomes. Kilifi County exhibits structural vulnerabilities characterised by high adolescent pregnancy rates, entrenched gender inequality, persistent poverty and systemic health infrastructure gaps. According to national health indicators, teenage pregnancy in Kilifi County stands at 12.5 percent, compared to the national average of 15% percent (Kenya Demographic and Health Survey, 2022). This rate of adolescent childbearing is coupled with low secondary school completion rates, early marriage pressures and persistent menstrual poverty across rural sub counties (Ministry of Health Kenya, 2021).

Moving the Goalposts (MTG) is a sport for development organization based in Kilifi, Kenya. In collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation, MTG is implementing the STRIDES Project with funding from Global Affairs Canada. The project aims to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) outcomes for women, adolescent girls, and male youth across Kilifi County. Within this partnership, MTG leads community-level demand creation activities and facilitates access to accurate and appropriate sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, particularly for adolescent girls and women of reproductive age.

MTG seeks to strengthen its SRHR curriculum by aligning it with the Ministry of Health Life Skills Curriculum and embedding key cross-cutting themes, including Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), adolescent nutrition, and life skills development. The revised curriculum will be guided by the STRIDES SBCC Strategy to enhance its relevance, effectiveness, and impact among adolescents and young people
