Kilifi girls will lead Kenya to the World Cup in South Africa!

Moving the Goalposts - a girls' football and development organization in coast province - is going to the World Cup in South Africa 2010. Moving the Goalposts (MTG) will participate in the Football for Hope Festival to be played in Alexandra, Johannesburg during the last week of the World Cup.

The Football for Hope Festival is a celebration of the social dimension of the game and MTG will be one of just 32 delegations from around the world who have been chosen because of their excellent commitment and track record in the field of Development through Football. The Football for Hope Festival 2010 brings together the most successful and active organisations in the field of Development through Football, which has been recognized by the FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter:

"The Football for Hope Festival will be a unique opportunity for organisations using football as a tool for social development in every part of the world to interact with each other and to showcase their programmes on football's biggest stage - the 2010 FIFA World Cup," said Blatter. "We look forward to welcoming them to South Africa and experiencing together how football is contributing to building a better future."

MTG will take a delegation of 11 people from Kilifi: 8 players between 15 and 18 years of age (4 girls and 4 boys), a coach, a young leader and a head of delegation. MTG's programme manager, Margaret Belewa, said, "We are delighted to have been selected. This gives us a chance to put Kilifi girls on the global map and to highlight the work of MTG. Let's go and show the world that 'Tunaweza'!"

MTG promotes football for girls and creates opportunities for them to fulfill their potential both on and off the football field. It runs a number of programmes including football and leadership, peer led health and social support, educational support and enterprise development.
