MTG almost in the national team!
And finally.... MTG was called that one of our players, Mbeyu Akida, was selected for the national team. The team was expected in Nairobi for the first qualification match for the All African Games against Sudan. It would have been the first match of the national teams since 2006 when they had beaten Djibouti 8 - 0.
Mbeyu Akida traveled with six other girls from the Coast to Nairobi. Only to find out that the team had been withdrawn from the competition. The FKL pulled the team out after a disagreement between the FKL and the Kenya National Sports Council. The players and officials asked the government to probe the decision, but so far nothing has happened.
In MTG we all hope that the wrangles in football will soon be over when a new football administration has been elected later this year. It's time that girls and women take over the organization of their own football activities.
And it's time that Mbeyu gets her chance in the national team. And that others will follow.
We can't wait...!
