Bango at the Baobab
Most staff in MTG are already on leave after the planning meeting for January and the end of year party - a great event on the beach at the Baobab hotel. I had planned to make a small thank you speech to all staff and board members but once the music was on (Bango all the way) there was no turning back. The girls stopped swinging their thangs only long enough to receive their end of year presents in a flurry of cheering and exuberance and then it was back to the serious issue of dancing. The fashion show topped off proceedings - with professionalism from the Nigerian Three (Duke, Gloria and Isu from the Girl Power Initiative), sexy evening wear from board members, Edna and Sassy, and M&E's Becky, classy casuals from Lidya and Lilian and daring beach wear by myself and Betty ... we have no shame. The piece de resistance came from Andrew - our intern from Safaricom - who took to the cat walk like a true pro and had us all in raptures as he did his thing!
All in all it was a memorable end to what has been a very busy and exciting year for MTG - and we look forward to much more in 2010 - the highlight will be the team going to the Football for Hope Festival at the World Cup in South Africa... and on a personal note getting the sanitary pads business plan finished and in a position to start the social enterprise is going to be my main challenge (as well as our new strategic plan for 2011-2015).
Will write more in the New Year
